Elegance in motion

Originally created in 1951 by British designer and sculptor Bernard Schottlander, the Mantis collection is a tribute to Alexander Calder's mobiles. Reissued by DCW Editions, these luminaires blend balance, asymmetry and poetic movement in sculptural form.

Weightless geometry in space

The Mantis lamps seem to float, defying gravity. With an ingenious counterweight and pivot system, their slender arms move with effortless grace. Each lamp appears to hang mid-air, like a suspended gesture or a paused movement.

Engineering meets sculpture

Schottlander's mechanical knowledge allowed him to create flexible, directional lamps with sculptural presence. The asymmetrical shades direct light softly downward while the arms stretch and bend like visual poetry.

A full collection of timeless silhouettes

Mantis includes floor lamps, table lamps, wall lights and adjustable models – all with matte black finishes, lightweight rods and floating forms. The result is a collection of luminaires that act as kinetic art in space.
