The Protection Index (IP) measures the resistance of a device to DUST and WATER.

IP ratings consist of two digits (eg IP65): these two digits each indicate a different type of protection.
- The first number represents the degree of protection against solid objects and dust.
- The second number represents the degree of protection against water and humidity.

The table below indicates the degree of protection that an index represents.

Most Common Ingress Protection:

IP20: the minimum and most widespread protection index in the world of lighting. Luminaires containing this protection index can be installed in all rooms of the house where it does not contain humidity. It indicates that the product has protection against medium-sized objects larger than 12.5 mm.

IP44: this protection index certifies that the product is protected against small objects larger than 1 mm and also against water splashes in all directions. Luminaires with this protection index can be installed in a bathroom (60 cm away from water points), or on an outdoor facade.

IP54: luminaires with this degree of protection can be installed outdoors. It certifies that the product is protected against the incipient accumulation of dust as well as splashing water from any direction.

IP65: This guarantees total protection against dust and high resistance to water splashes from all directions. Luminaires containing this index can be used in a bathroom around the bathtub and shower as well as outdoors.

IP66: Used for outdoor luminaires, the IP66 protection index provides complete protection against dust and large splashes of water.

IP67: luminaires that include this degree of protection are generally used for outdoor use. They are fully protected against dust and also against strong splashes of water. Resistant to rain and the vagaries of the weather, this protection index is ideal for the outdoors.

IP68: Used to illuminate swimming pools, bathtubs or showers, this protection index guarantees protection against total immersion of the luminaires.
