Within this approach, the wall light occupies a distinctive position. Installed at eye level, it acts simultaneously as a light source, a decorative object and a structuring element. It can draw attention to a wall, guide movement through a space or complement general lighting with softer, more nuanced illumination.

Brick² Balt® belongs to this new vision of interior lighting. Created in 2026 to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Roger Pradier® Outdoor Lighting’s iconic Brick², it reinterprets for indoor spaces a silhouette originally associated with outdoor environments.

Its designer, Stéphane Joyeux, retains the light’s pared-back geometry while introducing a new material identity. Brick² Balt® is made from Balt®, an innovative material described as having a low carbon footprint and produced from cereal residues generated by the beer-brewing process.

Balt® is presented as 100% bio-based, 100% recycled and recyclable. These qualities are not merely technical selling points. Brick² Balt® was created to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Brick², an iconic Roger Pradier® Outdoor Lighting model. For this new edition, Stéphane Joyeux did more than simply move an outdoor wall light inside. He reconsidered both its use and its material.

Outdoor lighting often possesses a particularly clear architectural language. Its volumes must be able to communicate with façades, entrances and landscaped environments. Once introduced indoors, this clarity of form becomes a structuring decorative feature.

Inside the home, the light can also be viewed at close range. It enters into dialogue with textiles, wall colours, wood, stone, decorative plaster and furniture. The choice of material therefore becomes essential.

Brick² Balt® retains the recognisable geometry of the original model while introducing a new surface. Its texture, variations and material effects enrich the perception of its clean shape.

Stéphane Joyeux designed both Brick² and its reinterpretation for indoor spaces. With Brick² Balt®, he develops an existing design without erasing the qualities that make it recognisable.

This approach illustrates a more enduring vision of design: preserving a relevant form, extending its story and reconsidering it through new materials and applications.

Innovation does not necessarily require a completely new silhouette. It can also emerge from the thoughtful transformation of an established object.

Turning residual matter into a new resource

Balt® is produced using cereal residues from the beer-brewing process. Material generated by one production activity is therefore recovered and used as the basis for a new object.

According to the information provided, Balt® is:

A warm bulb will contribute to a welcoming atmosphere. If the space receives little natural light, the brightness of the E27 source should be selected carefully.

In the living room

In a living space, Brick² Balt® can complement a pendant, floor lamp or table lamp. It brings interest to a wall without occupying floor space or requiring additional furniture.

It can be placed near a bookcase, above a low cabinet or on either side of an artwork. Its purpose does not necessarily have to be the strong illumination of the entire room. It may instead create an additional layer of depth.

Coordinate the finish with the wall

There are two principal approaches to choosing a finish.

The first is based on continuity. A Blanc light on a pale wall or an Encre finish on a dark surface allows the form to emerge subtly.

The second uses contrast. Terracotta can add warmth to a neutral surface, while Encre provides a graphic accent against white or beige.

In both cases, it is useful to observe the room at different times of day. A colour does not produce the same effect in natural daylight, warm artificial illumination or a more shaded area.

Consider the surrounding materials

Before planning several wall lights, it is advisable to simulate their dimensions and positions directly on the wall.

Preparing for installation

Before purchasing, reproduce the silhouette of Brick² Balt® on paper or cardboard at full size: 150 mm wide and 272 mm high.

Place this template against the wall. This simple simulation makes it easier to assess the proportions of the light in relation to furniture, doors, artwork and other light sources.

Its depth of 95 mm should also be considered, particularly in narrow hallways or close to a circulation route.
