An industrial pendant with raw elegance and sculptural power
With Babele, Marc Sadler creates a striking pendant light for Martinelli Luce—a manifesto bridging rationality and formal poetry. Inspired by the shape of a dome, this design expresses refined industrial aesthetics, where brushed and lacquered aluminium becomes a living material. Grooved like an ascending spiral, it suggests a path toward the light. Offered in three sizes, Babele is a luminous object that adapts equally well to intimate settings and open architectural spaces.
A textured design between geometry and motion
What stands out immediately is the sense of graphic tension. The spun aluminium shade is etched with irregular rings layered on non-parallel planes, creating subtle shadows and a dynamic silhouette. The exterior features a rough, mica-like texture—almost mineral—while the golden interior reflects light with radiant warmth, transforming a technical fixture into a radiant focal point.
Three sizes to meet every lighting scenario
Available in diameters of 45 cm, 65 cm, and 92 cm, Babele suits a wide range of settings—from a contemporary kitchen to a tall entryway, a cosy lounge or a sophisticated commercial space. The two smaller models hold one 15 W max E27 LED bulb each, while the largest accommodates three bulbs, producing up to 4560 lumens for broad, direct illumination. A 350 cm power cable allows custom hanging heights, tailored to your space.
Technical lighting—direct, bold, and adjustable
Designed to deliver focused light, Babele casts a strong yet warm glow, thanks to its golden interior and 3000 K LED sources. While not dimmable in its standard version, it can accommodate dimmable bulbs as needed. The robust shade, suspended by steel cables, offers both visual stability and structural integrity.
A luminous object with symbolic resonance
Beyond its industrial presence, Babele carries deeper meaning. Its spiral profile evokes an upward journey—a metaphor for human pursuit of clarity, knowledge, transcendence. It merges formal precision with material poetry, becoming more than a lamp. A signature piece by Martinelli Luce that exists at the crossroads of design, architecture, and illumination.
