Roger Pradier® motion sensors: a new standard in intelligent outdoor lighting

Roger Pradier® motion sensors: a new standard in intelligent outdoor lighting

Outdoor lighting is no longer limited to simple illumination. It has evolved into a smart, responsive system designed to enhance comfort, safety, and energy efficiency. With its new generation of motion sensor luminaires, Roger Pradier® introduces a refined approach where technology and high-end design work seamlessly together.

Here, motion detection is not just a feature — it becomes a central element of modern outdoor lighting.

Motion detection designed for real-life use

Motion detection designed for real-life use

Roger Pradier® motion sensors are built on reliable detection technology that automatically activates lighting when movement is detected within a defined area.

The system operates based on two key factors:

  • movement within the detection zone
  • ambient light level

The light only turns on when movement is detected in low-light conditions, ensuring efficient and relevant use.

By default, luminaires are configured to switch on for approximately 1 minute with a 100 lux threshold, corresponding to activation at dusk.

Motion sensor operation: standard or advanced settings (wall lights only)

Motion sensor operation: standard or advanced settings (wall lights only)

Available in a version with a motion sensor, this wall light works immediately thanks to optimized factory settings.
By default, the light turns on for approximately 1 minute when motion is detected, only if the ambient light level is below 100 lux.

This standard configuration ensures simple and efficient operation right from installation, with no setup required.

Customize your lighting with the remote control (optional)

For more precise control tailored to your environment, an optional dedicated remote control (code TC03) can be added (sold separately).

It allows you to easily adjust:

  • the lighting duration (from 15 seconds to 30 minutes)
  • the brightness threshold
  • the detection sensitivity
  • the manual override mode

The remote control is not included and must be purchased separately.
This feature is only available on wall lights equipped with a motion sensor.

Smart and flexible outdoor lighting

This system offers the perfect balance between convenience and customization: immediate operation with factory settings, or advanced control for a fully tailored lighting experience.

A detection zone optimized for outdoor environments (wall lights only)

A detection zone optimized for outdoor environments (wall lights only)

Unlike many standard systems, Roger Pradier® motion detection is designed for real-life outdoor conditions.

With a recommended installation height of 2.5 meters, the detection range is approximately:

  • 3 meters in front (approach detection)
  • 2.5 meters on the sides

If the luminaire is installed lower (around 2 meters), the detection range adjusts accordingly to about 2.5 meters both in front and on the sides.

This configuration allows:

  • early detection of approaching movement
  • immediate activation of lighting
  • smooth illumination of circulation areas

Detection accuracy may vary depending on installation height, movement direction, and environmental factors such as obstacles or temperature changes.

Outdoor bollards with integrated motion detection for automated lighting

Outdoor bollards with integrated motion detection for automated lighting

In addition to wall lights, Roger Pradier® also offers outdoor bollards equipped with a motion sensor, ideal for accurately lighting pathways, gardens, and high-traffic areas.

The detection system is based on simple and effective manual settings. The lighting duration can be adjusted from 1 second to 20 minutes, while the activation threshold can be set between 5 and 1000 lux, ensuring perfectly adapted operation according to ambient light conditions.

The detection zone covers approximately 4 meters in front and 4 meters laterally, with an adjustable range depending on requirements. This setup allows movements to be anticipated and ensures automatic lighting as soon as someone enters the area.

A single sensor can control multiple luminaires, with a maximum power of up to 100 W LED, providing an efficient solution to manage several lighting points from a single installation.

The sensor is also removable and available in different finishes (white or black depending on the models), allowing it to blend discreetly into the luminaire’s design, in line with Roger Pradier®’s high-end aesthetic standards.

Enhanced comfort and everyday security

Enhanced comfort and everyday security

Automatic lighting significantly improves daily comfort.

It is particularly useful:

  • when arriving home at night
  • in areas without easy access to switches
  • for securing entrances and walkways

At the same time, sudden illumination helps deter unwanted intrusions and enhances overall safety.

Energy efficiency and long-term performance

Energy efficiency and long-term performance

Because the light activates only when needed, motion sensor luminaires help reduce energy consumption.

This results in:

  • lower electricity usage
  • extended product lifespan
  • optimized outdoor lighting management

Installation: a key factor for performance

Installation: a key factor for performance

Proper installation is essential for optimal detection.

Recommended guidelines include:

  • installation height around 2.5 meters
  • avoiding obstacles directly in front of the sensor
  • not aiming the sensor toward moving objects such as trees
  • positioning the luminaire along natural movement paths

A well-planned installation ensures smooth and reliable detection.

Discreet technology serving design

Discreet technology serving design

A key strength of Roger Pradier® lies in the seamless integration of technology.

The motion sensor is designed to remain discreet, ensuring that the aesthetic quality of the luminaire is never compromised.

This allows the product to maintain a premium appearance while delivering advanced functionality.

FAQ – Roger Pradier® Motion Sensors

FAQ – Roger Pradier® Motion Sensors

How do Roger Pradier® motion sensors work?
Roger Pradier® motion sensors use passive infrared technology to detect heat variations within a defined area. When movement is detected in low-light conditions, the light turns on automatically.

What is the detection range of Roger Pradier® luminaires?
When installed at around 2.5 meters height, the detection range is approximately 3 meters in front and 2.5 meters on the sides. This may vary depending on installation and environment.

Can the sensor settings be adjusted?
Yes, users can adjust lighting duration, brightness threshold, sensor sensitivity, and manual override mode using a dedicated remote control.

Why doesn’t the light turn on during the day?
The system includes a daylight threshold. If ambient light is above the set level, the luminaire will not activate even if movement is detected.

Which Roger Pradier® models include motion detection?
Motion detection is available on selected collections such as Place des Vosges 1 Évolution, Tetra, Bermude, Moon, and Dallas.

Can motion sensors be triggered unintentionally?
Yes, external factors such as animals, wind in vegetation, or temperature variations can cause unwanted activation. Proper installation and settings help reduce this.

What is the ideal installation height?
The recommended height is around 2.5 meters to ensure optimal detection performance and coverage.

Do motion sensor lights save energy?
Yes, since they operate only when needed, they reduce energy consumption and improve overall efficiency.
