Designed by Arne Jacobsen for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen in 1957, the AJ Wall Lamp is an iconic piece from the furniture and lighting collection. This wall lamp produces pleasant, downward-directed light, thanks to the inside of its lampshade being painted white. Additionally, the shade can be adjusted to personalize light distribution as needed.

The AJ lamp family is regarded as Arne Jacobsen's most famous design concept globally. In addition to the AJ Wall Lamp, the AJ family includes a standard table lamp, a mini table lamp, a floor lamp, and a table-mounted lamp. All these models were present at the SAS Royal Hotel following its opening in 1960.

The AJ Lamp, with its characteristic sleek shape and immaculate lighting, was visible throughout the hotel, offered in either copper or stainless steel finish. Along with AJ Royal, the AJ lamp family was part of the overall decoration concept envisioned by Arne Jacobsen for the hotel, for which he designed almost everything himself. The parallel lines between straight contours and the combination of right angles and rounded corners found in the lamp's design are reflected in the geometric silhouettes of his buildings.

Lighting Concept

The AJ Wall Lamp emits light directed downwards. The angle of the diffuser can be adjusted by approximately 90 degrees vertically and 60 degrees to each side to optimize light distribution. The inside of the shade is painted white to emit a soft and comfortable light.

The light source for the wall lamp is a 1x20W E14 bulb.

Environmental Information

This product complies with the European RoHS directives 2011/65 and 2015/863, designed for complete disassembly and reuse. Louis Poulsen is part of the organization ELRETUR, which promotes the reuse of electronic waste across Europe. This product should be treated as electronic waste and is packaged in a fabric bag and a cardboard box, made of at least 75% recycled fibers. Additional cardboard comes from FSC-certified sources.

Installation

Installation can be done with or without a cable, with various options for the switch. For installations with a cable, a cable with a plug is included, measuring 2.4 m, with an on/off switch on the wall box. For installations without a cable, a wall bracket allows for direct wall mounting, with or without a switch on the wall box, depending on the chosen option.

The AJ Wall Lamp measures 14.5 cm in width, 31.8 cm in depth, and 18 cm in height, with a reflector of 24.7 cm and a base diameter of Ø 9 cm. The total weight is 0.9 kg, making this wall lamp an elegant and functional lighting solution for any interior space.
