The PH 2/1 pendant from Louis Poulsen is an essential part of the PH 3-shade family, stemming from a revolutionary lighting concept developed by Poul Henningsen during the turbulent winter months of 1925-26 for a major exhibition hall in Copenhagen, Denmark, known as "Forum." In 1926, Henningsen highlighted the PH luminaire's true innovation as its ability to provide both glare-free and economical lighting, marking a significant achievement in both technical and aesthetic terms.

Design Concept and Flexibility

Before the advent of the 3-shade system, Henningsen and Louis Poulsen collaborated on designing lights for the Danish pavilion at the 1925 Paris World Exposition. From this experience, Henningsen was inspired to use the logarithmic spiral as a basis for a new shade structure. This approach not only allowed for the control of light intensity and shade but also ensured a harmonious light transition between each shade, depending on their distance from the bulb.

Customization and Innovation

The PH 2/1, with its blown opal glass shades, embodies this philosophy, offering soft light primarily directed downwards. The lighting system adapts remarkably well to different environments thanks to a variety of shade sizes, materials, and finishes, allowing for multiple lighting configurations.

A distinctive feature of the PH 2/1 is its cable, which changes color based on the finish of the aluminum support: metallic black (black cable), chrome aluminum (black cable), or metallic brass (white cable), adding an extra layer of consistency and refinement to the design.

Technical Features

  • Light source: a 1x20W E14 bulb, creating a welcoming light ambiance.
  • Materials: white blown opal glass shades on an aluminum support with a high-gloss finish.
  • The 3-meter-long cable comes in black or white, depending on the chosen finish, offering an aesthetic and personalized installation.

Assembly and Dimensions

The pendant comes equipped with a 2x0.75 mm² cable, including a canopy for simple installation. The lamp's compact dimensions, 20 cm in width by 14 cm in height and weighing just 0.7 kg, make it ideal for elegantly illuminating various interior spaces.

The PH 2/1 continues the innovative spirit of the PH 3-shade luminaires, offering a lighting solution that combines beauty, functionality, and adaptability, thus fitting perfectly in both classic and contemporary spaces.
