Effectively Lighting the Pool Surrounds
For effective lighting around a pool, it is recommended to use bollards and recessed spots:
Bollards:
• Placement: Install bollards at regular intervals around the pool to ensure uniform and safe lighting. A distance of 3 to 4 meters between each bollard is ideal.
• Height: Bollards should be positioned at a height of about 1 meter from the ground to effectively light the paths while minimizing glare.
Recessed Spots:
• Placement: Spots can be recessed in the ground or along the pool walls to illuminate specific areas like steps or the contours of the basin.
• Distance: Place recessed spots at distances of 2 to 3 meters from each other to ensure sufficient light coverage without creating shadow areas.
Safety Standards to Follow
The installation of lighting around pools must comply with strict standards to ensure everyone’s safety. Luminaires must be carefully selected and placed to avoid electrical hazards, particularly by adhering to the safety zones defined by standards.
Safety is paramount when installing lighting around pools. It is crucial to adhere to the NF C 15-100 standards that define three safety volumes around pools, each with specific requirements for protection (IP) and electrical voltage. The lighting must be suitable to withstand moisture and splashes, with appropriate protection ratings (for example, IPX8 for volume 0 in the water and IPX5 for peripheral areas).
