Born on December 7th, 1966 in Taurianova, Reggio Calabria, Italy, Alfonso Femia has navigated between Genoa, Milan, and Paris, with Genoa serving as his anchor point. Having graduated from the School of Architecture in Genoa in 1992, he joined various architectural boards in Italy, France, and Switzerland over the years. His expertise and commitment to pedagogy led him to teach at the Kent State University in Florence and the Schools of Architecture in Ferrara and Genoa.

A Diverse Professional Journey
The journey began in 1995 with the inception of 5+1, which later evolved into 5+1AA in 2005 and 5+1AA sas Paris in 2007. Recognizing his individuality and growing influence in the architectural realm, the studio was renamed Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia AF517 in 2017. Alfonso Femia's accomplishments have been celebrated in various international competitions, and his work has been extensively featured in specialized magazines globally.

In 2015, 500x100 was birthed, with 500x100Talk, a space dedicated to city-centered dialogues and exchanges. It also serves as a forum for interaction among various experts, animated by journalist Giorgio Tartaro. Femia is renowned for his in-depth exploration of materials, which he delves into through collaborations with international companies. His passion for ceramics, light, wood, glass, cardboard, and bio-dynamic concrete is evident in his projects. His collaboration with artist Danilo Trogu stands out, resulting in the creation of "imaginary animals" crafted from ceramic, seen in locations such as the Docks of Marseille and the residences of Asnières-sur-Seine.
