Emiliana Martinelli: The Legend of Lighting Design

Origins and Education
Emiliana Martinelli was born in Lucca in 1949. She took her first steps in the design world at the Art Institute of Lucca, where she specialized in ceramics. Her academic journey then continued at the ISIA in Florence, where she achieved a degree in industrial design and a bachelor's in architecture.

Family Legacy
After her studies, Emiliana joined the family business, which was founded in the 1930s by her grandfather Plinio. Under the influence of her father Elio, the company shifted its focus in the 1950s to designing and producing lamps. Emiliana began a long-term collaboration with her father, who became her primary mentor, jointly developing iconic concepts and products for Martinelli Luce.

Roles and Recognitions
Today the chairwoman of Martinelli Luce, Emiliana has always worn several hats: entrepreneur, designer, and artistic director. She notably oversaw the graphic design of communication and marketing materials. She is also responsible for creating the company's booths at professional fairs in Italy and abroad. Over the years, Emiliana has designed numerous award-winning lamps. Among the most recent are awards such as the German Design Award and the IF PRODUCT DESIGN.

Since 1965, Emiliana has worked with renowned architects like Gae Aulenti and Sergio Asti.
